Privacy Policy
TIL: Curious Facts ("TIL", "the app", "we") is published by Dolair. This policy explains what the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to the Android and iOS versions of the app.
The short version
- You can use TIL without an account. Without one, your favorites and reading progress stay on your device.
- If you create an optional account, we store your email address and your synced favorites and progress so they follow you across devices.
- TIL has no ads and no advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs. We do not sell your personal information.
- You can delete your account and its data at any time, in the app or by email.
Information we collect
Without an account. Your favorites, the facts you have viewed, and your daily fact are saved only on your device. We do not receive them.
With an account (optional). If you sign up, we collect:
- Your email address and password. The password is handled by our authentication provider and stored in hashed form. We cannot read it.
- A user ID created for your account.
- Synced app data: your favorite facts, the facts you have viewed, your daily fact, and a last-updated time.
Subscriptions. Purchases are made through Google Play (Android) or the Apple App Store (iOS). Google or Apple handles payment, and we never see or store your card or payment details. The app asks Google Play or Apple whether you have an active subscription so it can unlock premium features.
Connection data. When the app opens, it checks whether our sync service is reachable and loads a software library (the open-source Supabase client) from public content delivery networks. Like any online service, our backend provider and those networks can see your IP address and basic request details such as device type when the app connects. We do not use this to identify you or to track you across other apps or websites.
Voice narration. Narration uses the text-to-speech engine built into your device. TIL does not record audio.
How we use information
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To sync your favorites and progress across your devices.
- To send account emails you request or need, such as email confirmation and password reset links.
- To check your subscription status and unlock premium features.
- To respond to support requests.
We do not use your information for advertising and we do not sell it.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us run the app, and only as needed:
- Supabase, our backend provider, which hosts authentication, the database for synced data, and account emails.
- Google Play (Android) and Apple (iOS), which process subscriptions and report your subscription status.
- Public content delivery networks (esm.sh, jsDelivr, Skypack) that serve the Supabase client library, as described above.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it. Our providers may process data in countries other than your own.
Security
Data sent between the app and our backend is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Retention and deletion
We keep account data until you delete your account. To delete it, open the app, go to the Account tab, sign in, and tap "Delete my account". Your account and synced data are erased from our backend. You can also request deletion by email; see how to delete your account and data. Data stored only on your device is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its storage. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription; manage subscriptions in Google Play or the App Store.
Your choices and rights
You can use TIL without an account, sign out at any time, and delete your account. Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, the UK, or California), you may also have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information. Email us and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
TIL is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. If a change is material, we will also tell you in the app where required.
